Dumbwaiter Kits

Jeeves Pro Dumbwaiter KitIf you are considering a dumbwaiter for your home or commercial building, the device comes in two forms: a kit or custom design. A manufacturer like Jeeves carries dumbwaiter kits, which are installed into a preexisting structure. Dumbwaiter kits by Jeeves are available for homes, commercial buildings, and restaurants, and all operate as small freight elevators, moving items from one floor to another. Carrying objects increases the likelihood of a fall on the stairs, and using a dumbwaiter reduces this risk.

Dumbwaiter Kits are designed with safety mechanisms; slack cable, final limit, and trolley brake.

Dumbwaiter kits by Jeeves, regardless of purpose, have similar features: controller with text display, call buttons, a rail and trolley system, a rollup gate cab, maintenance-free motor-gear assembly, and interlock door safety devices. Kits are also designed with safety mechanisms, such as a slack cable, final limit, and trolley brake.

Once a kit is installed, the cab can operate and travels 30 feet per minute. Smaller devices can travel a distance of 35 feet with four stops, while larger ones travel 70 feet with seven stops.

Although such electric devices are commonplace, manual dumbwaiters were used for a few hundred years until the 19th century. After witnessing the hazards of manual dumbwaiters in a manufacturing plant, Elisha Otis developed an electric dumbwaiter and would later create the first safety elevator for people. Some Victorian homes, however, may still have a manual dumbwaiter inside.

Dumbwaiter kits, depending on the size, are designed to support from 75 to 500 pounds. Although food, mail, books, laundry, and furniture can be transported inside, take a few precautions when operating a dumbwaiter. First, determine the weight the device can support; this information should be listed on the device. Then, bring the cab to your floor by pushing the "call" button. Once the cab arrives, open the door and fill it, making sure objects are not directly up against the edge. After you close the door, push "send," and the cab will go to the next floor. As soon as you have gone up the stairs, open the door to the dumbwaiter and remove the items inside.
