What's the Cost of Installing a New Elevator in a Home under Construction?

Freedom Hydro Residential ElevatorThe best thing about installing a new elevator in a home under construction is it's less expensive than adding an elevator to an existing home. You can spend between $21,000 and $25,000 for a basic two-stop elevator when adding it to your new home with a basic three-stop elevator costing from $28,000 to $30,000. Two-floor elevators in new homes start around $20,000 with each additional stop costing an additional $1,500 to $2,000.

The cost of a new elevator will rise with additional features, like glass walls, milled wood interiors, and decorative features that can add several thousand dollars to the price of a home elevator.

Home owners who choose to attach the elevator to the exterior of the home rather than indoors can expect the cost of the unit to start at $30,000 or more. The price of a home elevator is also influenced by its size, carrying capacity, safety features and speed.

The installation cost must also be added. Elevator installations done in new homes are less expensive than existing homes, and the cost of installation can be between $5,000 and $10,000 or more depending on the layout of your home.

The construction of the hoistway must also be considered, although the cost of a hoistway constructed in a new home is usually minimal.

The elevator model you select will also impact the price. You can choose between compact winding cable drum, overhead winding cable, overhead traction, or roped hydraulic models.

Pneumatic vacuum elevators are the latest model of home elevators that are air-driven tube elevators that take up less space than traditional elevators and don't require a hoistway or machine room. They come in 30-, 37- and 52-inch diameter models and are capable of a 35-foot vertical rise over as many as four stops.

Pneumatic vacuum elevators can be installed quickly at a budget price. A basic two-story or three-story pneumatic elevator costs $20,000 to $28,000, which includes installation.
